Mowing My Jungle

Lawn-RilkeI think I must have picked the absolute worst three weeks of this summer to be away, if I’m looking strictly through the lens of lawn care. Several days of rain mixed evenly with days of hot, bright sunshine. And now the lawn is as over-grown as I’ve ever seen it. It’s 8″ tall in some places! And some of the weeds are more than 12″! That spells certain doom for my mulching mower. So I’ve had to break out the mower bag. I hate that thing.

I really don’t like the idea of the grass growing up, sucking the nutrients out of the soil, and then cutting it off and sending it to a dump somewhere. (Which is what happens when you bag your grass.) Then you have to get fertilizer for the lawn every year. Wasteful, unnatural. Ugh. Mulching seems so much better. Chew up the grass and put it right back where it came from. Nice little cycle, ya know? If it weren’t for the two-stroke engine polluting up our fair city, mowing the lawn would be a perfect little ritual.

Alas, mine is now too long. I started on it yesterday, but ran out of time. So now, I’m back at it today. I’ve included a pic, and hopefully, I’ll remember to include another once I’m done.

Got any good lawn-care stories? Surprise me, come on. I”ll respond as soon as I can.
