Nine Days In…

So, I’ve been in Columbus for DMAC for nine days now. I have to say that it is one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. I feel like I’ve been preparing for this for a long time. It’s also really reassuring and even encouraging. So many like-minded people concerned with the impact and potential of digital technologies in our Comp classrooms. I’ve met several inspiring grad students as well. Folks from the, Ohio State, Michigan State, Washington, Pittsburg, and the list could go on.

It’s not that I’ve been exposed to a ton of new ideas here. I’ve been reading and thinking about this stuff for years, and I don’t think someone like me is the primary audience for the assignment of these readings and our discussions about them. What I like most about being here is interacting with people as they develop their projects. Watching them learn something about the affordances of a given medium is truly magical. I’ve noticed that this happens most often while they’re trying to figure out a given interface. I think that’s why I’m so attracted to helping people troubleshoot their technical goals and obstacles.

Now I’m realizing that I don’t really have much to say this morning. I’ll sign off. T.
